According to CatererSearch.com, male and female bar owners, bar workers and male caterers, cooks and kitchen porters all have an above average risk of dying from alcohol abuse in the UK.
This was the key finding of a new study on occupational mortality in England and Wales during the 1990s, produced by Professor David Coggon of Southampton University and published jointly by the Office for National Statistics and the Health and Safety Executive.
The statistics also suggest that if you work behind the bar you are at a higher risk, compared to working in other industries, of being murdered. This is probably because of the hazard of working among people who are intoxicated by drink, researchers said.
Interesting reading but probably not something that should be shown to those entering the trade for the first time!

The other reason we are more likely to be murdered is all that cash we have on hand at 2 in the morning. I can tell from first hand experience that have a couple guys with guns walk in and put one to your head is it not a fun experience. My advice "give um the cash, offer them a drink for the road" and get them out of your place asap.
