How to leverage every opportunity to engage with your customers

They say that it takes 7-9 touches of a customer before they pay any attention to your message. Did you ever have an experience where something that you had never seen or heard of before suddenly appears 3 or 4 times in your day? Well, that product or thing had touched you enough times for you take notice and then you were seeing it everywhere!

What if you as a business owner could make your customers and potential customers feel the same way about your menu or promotions? It’s going to take more than them visiting your bar once or hearing about it once to remember you. There’s just too much choice.

As familiar readers to this blog will know, I advocate the use of Social Media in a big way to leverage your services and engage your customers. Once a customer is a fan on Facebook or a follower on Twitter, you have a couple of more touch points and opportunities to break through the white noise of advertising we all endure daily and actually get your message across.

It’s one thing to setup a Facebook Page or a Twitter account. It’s another to get customers to join your online communities. I recommend incentivizing them by offering special deals only available on Facebook, Twitter-only promotions and by marketing your online communities wherever you currently advertise.

Add your full Facebook Page address (eg: facebook.com/thebarblogger), your Twitter handle (twitter.com/thebarblogger) to all of your marketing collateral like Flyers, Business cards, Posters, Menus, Gift Cards, Vehicles, Staff t-shirts, the mirror behind the bar, in the restrooms, projected onto the side of the building and any other creative ways you can find to get your customers and would-be customers to engage with you multiple times a day online. It’ll give them a few more reasons to remember you.

The Rusty Bucket Tavern in New Albany, OH use the little shot glasses normally used for your bill to include a business card with details of all their online social networks and contact details. What are you doing?
