Is this a publicity stunt ? SURE
Is Jim Koch the savviest beer marketer since Mike-AB-Roarty? YOU BET
Will a regular punter buy this in a package store? NO WAY
Will a group in a bar chip in to share a singular beer experience? GOOD CHANCE
Seriously, aside from collectors, experiental marketing is the way to go.Granted folks willing to chip in $20 for a small sample are thin on the ground even in NYC. It will get people talking and isn't that what Jim wants for Christmas.
