Who knew Oktoberfest had Etiquette?

I was lucky enough to go to Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany two years ago and it was an absolutely amazing experience. As you can see from the photo, they had more than beer on offer….

The German organisers have the event down to a fine art and despite the hundreds of thousands of people who attend, we didn’t see any trouble, surprisingly few people passed out drunk, and everything ran as smoothly as if a hundred people were in attendance and not a hundred thousand.

The one thing that stood out to me was how every tent and bierhaus seemed to have their own rituals, drinking songs and dances. It turns out that each of these bierhauses and the event in general sticks to a certain etiquette that when followed, will allow you to blend in as if you were one of the locals.
